Vinyl siding, fiber cement, engineered and composite siding, stone veneer, soffit, exterior trim boards, trim coil, J-channel, corners and other siding accessories, house wrap and barriers, exterior insulation and shutters.

Siding panels are often sold by the piece or carton, with coverage stated in square feet or squares (100 sq ft). Trim and accessories are sold by the piece in stated lengths, for example 10 ft or 12 ft 6 in.

Measure each wall’s width × height, subtract large openings such as garage doors, and add about 10% for waste. Divide by the coverage per carton. Measure the linear feet of corners, openings, eaves and the base for trim and accessories.

Calculate each wall’s area, subtract large openings and add about 10% for waste. Siding is often measured in squares (1 square = 100 sq ft): 1,800 sq ft of wall plus 10% is 1,980 sq ft, or about 20 squares.

Typical installations use starter strip, J-channel around openings, inside and outside corner posts, and soffit and fascia at the eaves. Use the manufacturer’s accessories so color and fit match.

Building codes generally require a water-resistive barrier, such as house wrap, behind siding. Follow your local code and the siding manufacturer’s instructions.
