Quick answers
How much paint do I need for a room?
Multiply the wall area by the number of coats and divide by the coverage on the label. For example, 800 sq ft of wall, two coats, at 350 sq ft per gallon is 1,600 ÷ 350 ≈ 4.6, so 5 gallons.
Do I need primer before painting?
Often, for new drywall, bare wood, stains or large color changes. Some paints include a primer. Follow the manufacturer’s label for the surface you are painting.
