Use postforming grade on particleboard or MDF countertop cores so the deck and rolled edge come off the same sheet, and specify the 605 fire-rated grade only where a code-required interior calls for it. Keep a matching or dark backer sheet on the underside of the substrate to balance the panel and limit warping.
