The top control bar allows for installation to be lower than an equivalent bottom-operated window, making it an ideal product in applications with low ceilings.

New construction: the rough opening
Order by the framed opening. Every window here that lists both sizes is 1/2 in smaller than its rough opening each way: a 36 × 48 opening takes a 35-1/2 × 47-1/2 window.

Replacement: the frame you have
Measure inside the old frame, jamb to jamb, at the top, middle and bottom, and use the smallest width. Do the same for the height, left, center and right.
