Expert Verdict — Reviewed by the SuperArbor Pro Desk
The 1/4 in. mesh is the go-to choice when you need to exclude mice, chipmunks or birds, finer than typical 1/2 in. hardware cloth. Attach it tightly to sturdy posts or a wood frame every 12-18 in. to prevent sagging. If you are excluding larger animals like rabbits or groundhogs, a 1/2 in. mesh roll may be more economical.
Cut wire ends are sharp; wear work gloves and eye protection when unrolling, cutting and fastening hardware cloth.
