Gaco Flex A4271 BleedTrap Acrylic Base Coat for Asphalt Roofing, 5 Gallon, Light Gray
GacoFlex A4271 BleedTrap Acrylic Base Coat is a single-component, water-based sealer supplied in a 5 gallon light gray pail, sold as one pail. It inhibits bleed-through of bitumen oils on asphalt roofing before silicone coating, helping preserve the fresh color and reflectivity of the new topcoat. Pair it with GacoFlex silicone top coats on BUR, modified bitumen, and smooth or granulated asphaltic membranes.
Key Features:
- Blocks bleed-through: Encapsulates the oil that exudes from bitumen substrates and traps it within the sealer to inhibit bleed-through.
- Protects reflectivity: Helps maintain the fresh color and reflectivity of a newly coated asphalt roof.
- Fast drying: Fast-drying formulation contributes to quicker turn-around for coating installations.
- Coverage indicator: Tinted red to help ensure consistent coverage during application.
- Water cleanup: Single-component, water-based sealer that cleans up easily with soap and water.
- Asphalt compatibility: Designed for built-up roofing (BUR), modified bitumen (ModBit), and smooth or granulated asphaltic membranes.

Expert Verdict — Reviewed by the SuperArbor Pro Desk
On any BUR or mod-bit roof getting a silicone restoration, a bleed-trap base coat is cheap insurance against brown streaking and loss of reflectivity. Apply it only after the substrate is dry and prepped, and let it cure fully before topping with the GacoFlex silicone coat. Verify the coverage rate from Gaco's published coverage documents for your substrate so you order enough pails for the whole roof.
Review the Gaco safety data sheet and use appropriate personal protective equipment and ventilation when applying roof coatings.
