Guide
Before you buy a breaker
- 1
Match the panel
Find the brand and series on the label inside the panel door. Homeline and QO are both Square D, and they do not interchange.
- 2
Match the wire
The breaker protects the wire. For copper: 14 AWG on 15 A, 12 AWG on 20 A, 10 AWG on 30 A.
- 3
Protection
Standard, AFCI (arc fault), GFCI (ground fault) or dual function. Your local code says which circuits need which.
- 4
Tandem and quad
Two circuits in one space, only in the slots the panel label allows.
This panel accepts Homeline breakers. Mixing breaker brands or incompatible series can void the safety listing and fail inspection, so match the series your electrician specifies.
