Buying guide

Before you order plumbing

What’s in this department

Gas, electric, heat pump and point-of-use water heaters and their parts, pipe, fittings, valves, supply lines, water filtration and softening, garbage disposals, repair parts, tools and cements, and irrigation and hose.

How it’s sold

Water heaters and valves are sold each. Pipe is sold by the length or coil (for example, 100 ft or 500 ft), and fittings each or by the pack.

What to check before you buy
  • Fuel type and venting for water heaters
  • Tank size and first-hour rating
  • Pipe material, size and pressure rating
  • Fitting type and connection compatibility
  • Local code and permit requirements
How to calculate quantity

Sketch the pipe runs, add the lengths and allow about 10% for routing changes. Count every fitting, valve and support along each run.

Quick answers

What size water heater do I need?

Size it by peak demand. Compare the first-hour rating on the listing with the hot water your household uses in its busiest hour. Tank capacity in gallons is listed too, but the first-hour rating is the closer comparison.

Can I replace a gas water heater with an electric one?

It is possible, but it usually needs a dedicated electrical circuit and the gas line capped. Check your local code and use a licensed installer where required.

What is the difference between PEX and PVC pipe?

PEX is flexible tubing used for hot and cold water supply. PVC is rigid pipe often used for drain, waste and vent lines and some cold-water uses. Check the rated use on the listing and your local code.

Is there a minimum order?

Online orders have a $399 minimum. All orders are subject to approval. You're not charged until your order is approved and ready to ship. Cancel free before then.

Where do you ship, and how is delivery charged?

Super Arbor ships to the 48 contiguous states. Delivery and taxes are calculated at checkout.
