Expert Verdict — Reviewed by the SuperArbor Pro Desk
Poly SMS is the base ply to specify when substrate movement or tear resistance is a concern, such as insulated decks or reroofs over questionable existing membranes. Its SBS-modified asphalt stays pliable in cold weather, making it forgiving to install. When spot mopping over polyiso or foam, use the venting-base technique to help the assembly breathe, and verify warranty eligibility with the matched CertainTeed cap sheet.
Hot-applied bitumen and torch work require trained crews, PPE and fire watch procedures; follow the application instructions for the chosen system.
